Trees in residential roads

Encourage householders to plant trees in their front or back gardens. TCBC shouild provide advice on suitable species and assistance with planting for OAP's.

In Ponthir for instance when the housing estate on the grounds of The Hafod was carried out, all front gardens or wide verges adjoing were provided with a tree - mostly of a flowering variety. Few of these remain.

Why the contribution is important

Trees are highly beneficial in absorbing C02 emissions and reducing traffic noise. They also provide an excellent habitat for birds and insects.

What an excellent and simple solution to absorbing carbon and you have the benefit of more trees adding to the local environment.

This is a great idea, thank you for taking the time to submit it. Encouraging and supporting people to make space for a tree, even a small one like a rowan, would certainly be beneficial.

Yes, I agree, and should be part of every planning application. Urban gardens form a connectivity, as well as road and all transport routes, which would provide for wildlife as well as an improved environment.

What also needs to be addressed is the future management of them to avoid conflict with people who find them hazardous. To have a public event for people to learn how to appreciate and value them.

Too many trees have been lost in recent years through disease, weather impaction, but also
some of us not being ready to live near them.

Fruit trees and bushes provide food for human and wildlife consumption and these could be planted by anyone, garden or public space.

This is a great idea - it builds on the Tree planting and fruit tree ideas already given by others. Advice would be needed on which tree to plant and how far from house foundations, etc, but this would add so much to gardens that are increasingly being paved over for car hard standing, gravel and slate. We need to increase our biodiversity if we are to reduce CO2 from the atmospher, not remove it and replace with concrete/stone.
