Encourage Bus Companies to Invest in more Eco-Friendly Buses
Torfaen County Borough Council should encourage bus companies like Phil Anslow Coaches and Stagecoach South Wales to invest in better buses with environmentally-friendly engines, for Torfaen. Euro VI diesel engines are no longer cutting it anymore. Many bus companies across the UK are investing in electric, hydrogen, biogas or hybrid. Even Newport Bus have just invested in 14 new electric buses. Perhaps even TCBC or Welsh Government should consider partially investing in these kind of buses.
Why the contribution is important
My idea is important especially at a time when local authorities are declaring a climate emergency, which we quickly and drastically need to address. Vehicle emissions are one of the biggest contributors to climate change and many people die every year from vehicle emissions alone. Either we address the problem and provide healthier communties for people to live in, or we can ignore it and allow many people to suffer from breathing in the toxic fumes coming out of bus exhausts.
